Health Care being uppermost in the U.S. news, has stimulated many of us to think about the state of our health and what we might do to help ourselves.

Last summer, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius told the Wall Street Journal, "The (U.S.) health-care system is tilted toward a disease system rather than a wellness system."  Many think it's time this changed.

Chronic disease is the public health challenge of the 21st century, according to the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta.  Prevention healthy living includes livestyle changes in diet and exercise. "Evidence indicates that with education, social support, and healthy policies and environments, people can and will take charge of their health," states the Power of Prevention, a 2009 CDC report.  The report promotes the following "proven social, environmental, policy, and systems approaches" supporting healthy living:

  • Urban designs that lead to increased physical activity

  • Low[fat and high-fruit-and-vegetable menu selections

  • Daily physical education in schools

  • 100% smoke-free policies in public places

  • Universal availability of 911 emergency services

  • Fluoridation of community drinking water

It also says health equity is "achieved when every person has an opportunity to attain his or her full health potential."  Since that potential is includes one's mental and emotional health, as well as the physical body's, any serious health policy would benefit from education that promotes Self-awareness and Self-realization.  Given the power of the individual's own dreams to reveal the state of one's conscious awareness, we think understanding one's dreams is a needed addition to this list.

What do you think?

  • Have you or someone you know experienced health insights in the dreamstate?

  • How does heeding your dreams contribute to your mental, emotional, and physical health?

Health Benefits to Dreaming

Dreams offer a unique glimpse into the whole Mind.   Mind is the intelligence that fashions our lives.  We determine the quality of our lives when we employ imagination and will with the whole Self in mind.

Healing is the quest for wholeness.

We dream about flat tires on cars to tell us about the condition of our physical body.
We dream about storms, be they tidal waves, tornadoes, or dust storms, to tell us about mental uprisings and sometimes confusion.
We dream about earthquakes to symbolize the opening of the Mind to higher ideals.
We dream about thunder and lightning to know more about the Source of our Being.

There are many levels of health dreams, for we are whole Beings, with the potential for great love and compassion and infinite creation.  Understanding your dreams is a first step to claiming your potential.  Next month, we'll explore more in-depth how and when natural disasters appear in our dreams.  See you then!•

How does heeding your dreams

How does heeding your dreams contribute to your mental, emotional, and physical health?

This past week, I had an experience with heeding a particular dream, contributing to my mental and emotional health.  As of late, I have been determining what state of mind in which I want to exist while going about each daily activity.  I started doing this because I realized that I was having difficulty in maintaining a balanced, productive attitude.  I was emotionally set off and hurt by small comments and minute discord with others.  This was throwing me out of the present moment on a continual basis.

I noticed that as I was walking from one place to another, I was in a grumpy state of mind.  I was alone washing dishes and my mind was lazy and scattered.  I have been practicing mental disciplines for three and a half years, so being this undisciplined in my state of mind indicates the need to take an honest look at what needs to change in me.  Check out this dream:

Dr. S (teacher) was in my dream.  I had a house.  N(male friend) and B(female) were there and not getting along.  I was “there for” N, supporting him.  Everyone was checking out my house.

Dr. S is a superconscious aspect, because she is one of my many teachers within the School of Metaphysics.  N and B are married, and this shows my commitment between these two aspects of myself.  They are conscious and subconscious aspects.  The presence of all three aspects reflects that I had a whole mind experience the day before this dream.

In the dream, N and B are not getting along, and I decide that I will comfort and support N.  I have always seen B as unnatural and dishonest.  I view N as the exact opposite.  I see him as honest and real.  With N, what you see is what you get.  He is a subconscious aspect, which means that his qualities are a permanent part of my soul.  It was difficult to own up to my dishonest outer mind, because I essentially know better.  I have understandings in honesty and sincerity, and therefore I experience an internal struggle when I am in pretense.

The previous days before the dream, I was juggling between either owning up to a series of negative attitudes, or justifying the attitudes and being dishonest about them.  I made the choice to own up to the attitudes, and support my real Self.  My real self is sincere and honest.  Therefore, in my dream, I was supporting N.

In the dream, the decision to own my state of mind is reflected by me owning my own home.  In waking life, I have never owned a house.  I put forth the effort to reveal to my whole Self (everyone was checking out my house), my natural state of mind, my real Self, who I really am.

Why is this so healing?  When I am siding with pretense, than I am in emotional pain.  When I am siding with honesty and purity, than I am functioning in harmony with my plan for existence.  My emotions balance out, and I function more productively, enabling me to learn rapidly.

Haunting

I dreamed of going into a house that I have dreamed about before.  I am there with my sister Kathy.  I look at the inside.  It is empty.  It is also very large.

I look at the kitchen that turns into a great room-living room area.  There are several bedrooms on the right side of the room.  As I continue to walk through the house I see that there is more space and rooms than I thought there were.  There is a perfect space for an office.  As I continue I realize that there are more rooms on the other side of the wall, a whole living quarters with kitchen and bedrooms.  It was like a duplex but all connected.  I realize as I am looking at this place and that I want to buy it.  I see so much space, there is no furniture at this time.

I look through the place again thinking how nice and spacious it is then I start to recognize the second side of the house.  At this point I become lucid.  I realize that I have dreamed about this house before and it has always had a leaking ceiling with water actively running into the room and peeling paint.  Now the house is in good repair and beautiful.  I wonder why I am here.

Then I realize one of the bedrooms in the house is haunted and want to know why this is occurring.   I go to look at the room.  It had a large TV in the room easily seen from the doorway.  I am standing on the side of the door wondering what would happen next.  As Kathy sits down in a chair opposite the door to the room the ghost, which looks like a ball of energy, comes out of the TV and fires energy at her.

I realize that the ghost represents the misuse of my imagination that occurred during the previous day.  Then I wake up.

This dream relates to an experience I had during the previous day where I had let my imagination get the better of me.  I was reacting to the loss of some papers at the school where I teach.  I was feeling very responsible for the loss and felt I was to blame.  I was imagining everyone’s displeasure of me and thought they found me lacking in my responsibility.  And I was feeling like a failure in general.

What the dream highlighted to me was that I wasn’t a failure.  I had made changes in my thinking, house in good repair.  I needed to stay open to learning, realizing that I had a lot of attachment to looking good and being perfect, the haunting.  This dream helped me to relax and find the objectivity I needed so I could stay open to learning.

Imagination Haunting

Thank you, Karen, for making time to contribute.  This is an evolved way of understanding how health appears in a dream.  Most people do not realize how what we imagine is the source of most of the fears we will ever experience.

What is particularly noteworthy in your description is the moment of lucidity.  There is a clear demarcation between the known, older side of the house which reminds me of Jesus' quote that "in my father's house are many mansions".  Yours includes a section under renovation, which is a wonderful representation of healing.  It also includes the haunted room which indicates what is persecuting you is contained in one space, one group of attitudes, and they are all linked to whatever your sister represents and other people's thoughts.

An interesting clue here for you is the dream-action of other's thoughts feeding the sister-aspect of you.  This is the aspect of self - well known, well-loved, and that you have had with you for years - which is receptive.  Whether this is the reason for the "haunting" or its remedy, only you can say.

Again thank you for submitting a dream that will stimulate most to reach more deeply and study more regularly to achieve this level of understanding.

Every dream I have gives me

Every dream I have gives me insight into my health.  Health is not just physical.  Health includes mental, emotional, and physical.  This is definitely a new approach to health that will completely transform humanity, once it becomes impressed in the minds of the masses.  When I interpret a dream, I look for how it is that I am directing my mind because how I am directing my mind will give me the most insight to my present health.  This is owing to the Universal truths Thought is Cause and As Above so Below.

I had an interesting dream the other night that displays this.

The Dream:
I was in a car with a close female friend of mine.  She was driving us to the hospital where we were going to visit a male friend of ours.  As we are walking to his room there is a small open room to my right were a male and female are.  The male is laying dead on the floor and the woman is standing beside his body, on the telephone with a doctor trying to understand if he is really dead, why this occurred and what she should do about it.  We go into the room of my friends.  He is healing a lame arm.  I sit on his bed and read from a pamphlet that I picked up.  We are laughing and joking about the irony and silliness of the pamphlet’s message.  When we leave, she is driving again.  While in the car, I tell her about my desire for wanting to have sex.

My Interpretation:
The beginning of the dream, which is usually the theme of the dream, has to do with how I am directing myself.  It is the charismatic and free expression of myself that is causing movement.  The dream is centered around healing.  I discover some type of change that has occurred that I am aware of  and am trying to understand, consciously, how it occurred.  There is an understanding I have built in regards to progressiveness and receiving greater depth and meaning from my experiences.  This part of me needed to be healed from a lack of purpose and thus, renewed.  Ironic, eh! I’ve caused myself to rise above and gain a perspective that is positive.  I take this and move forward again, desiring to create in my experiences.

When I had this dream I was feeling unmotivated the day before.  I had an experience that I didn’t like occur and was trying to understand it.  I knew I had changed through the circumstances, yet I didn’t really understand why or how to move forward with my new realization.  I spent time contemplating the question that arose in my mind and journaled about it.  I later realized that it was my karma.  Much of my life I’ve had the tendency to get caught up in other people, consumed in other people’s thoughts and external in my thinking.  The experience I was having was another example of this and was yet another reminder that I needed to focus my attention on my own learning and growth and focus upon what really matters for me right now.  What really matters is that I focus upon having experiences that lead me toward being the person I want to me and manifesting that, becoming that, relaxing into that. This reflects the part at the end of the dream where I want to have sex.  I went through a whole series of events, came to a conclusion and sincerely desired to practice this newfound awareness.  I therefore want to create with the awareness.

This was a profound experience now that I look back upon it.  Even though I’ve been practicing dream interpretation for years now and it still amazes that our dreams reflect our waking life so vividly and flawlessly.  This is such a grand opportunity that I have of understanding myself through this practical method of dream interpretation that I’ve received through my study with the School of Metaphysics.

So, yes, heeding the dream message reveals great insight into the health of the individual.

The Prodigal Friend

I was at this gas station and I wanted to get out and these guys that worked there were blocking my way.  They had some piles of leaves on the ground.  I asked why, and they said that the fuel truck was coming back.  Employees were blocking the gas pump area.  I went to back up and then it kind of opened up in front of me so I went forward instead.  I could see where the truck was and I knew I would be out of the way.  They were a little upset with me.

I got out of the truck and a woman asked me about something.  I am very good at this thing she points out.  I am surprised and honored  H*is there and she has a tongue ring.  I am talking to her and D* shows up.  I immediately realize he has changed.  His vibration is much higher and lighter.  I grab him and hug him.  He tells me his wife wrote a book about their love story that will be published.  The publisher changed the ending a little.  His wife presented it to him as a surprise.  D* was crying and I was a little confused.  I thought maybe she left him.  That was not true.  He couldn’t really explain it.  He had a woman’s cigarette case on a chain around his wrist.

The gas station represents an opportunity to receive energy for the body.  Unknown conscious aspects are blocking my way and want me to back up.  I see an opening and move forward.  An unknown woman pointing out something I am good at would be a way that I received some positive feedback from subconscious mind.  I am talking to H* who stands for purposeful success with some limiting attitudes and I notice her tongue ring which shows a value and commitment to expressing myself.

I see D* who is an old friend that is very closed off.  He had changed and I hug him, which shows a way that I am healing this part of myself that has been closed off.  His wife had written a book about their love shows that I am storing information about how the subconscious mind is working with my conscious mind.  The opportunity now is to turn that information into knowledge by giving myself experiences.  The open and empty cigarette case chained to his wrist represents how my purpose is connected to receptivity.

The day before I had this dream, I had some experiences that were other than what I desired.  I had been discussing openness and vulnerability with several people for a couple of days prior to this.  My normal reaction to these events would have been to close off and try to protect myself.  I made a conscious choice to use the events as a way to learn and grow and make new, more productive choices.  I wrote in my journal to get it all out and allowed myself to really experience my true feelings instead of denying them and blaming others.  I reached out to teachers for guidance and input which helped me expand my perspective and find even more good in the moment.  During the whole process, I made purposeful choices to remain open and to learn and grow and that was what produced the healing.

The Mystery of Infinite Energy

This dream brings in an important facet of health...Energy.  Gas for you car will represent energy, especially energy that is available for your physical body to keep it going and to ensure it does what it is supposed to do.  In this case the dreamer is at a gas station and also waiting for a fuel truck.  These are indicators of the availability of energy for the dreamer and how he may be accessing this energy or having a difficulty drawing upon the kind and quality of energy that is needed.

I recommend a more thorough exploration of what energy is.  In the physical body we experience energy in the form of electricity that moves through the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems.  These systems affect the motor nerves that allow us to move the muscles of our body and they affect the energy flows that keep our autonomic body functions moving even when we are not thinking about them.  This can include breath, digestion, heartbeat, and much more.  The body also transforms energy through the endocrine system.  These glands of the body  regulate hormones which act as energy catalyst, and regulators throughout the whole physical system.

Another way to understand energy is how it moves through the seven chakras or energy transformers that correspond with physical body.  Chakras are metaphysical vortices that return used creative energy back into the Mind where it can be used again to learn, evolve, and become an enlightened creator.  Understanding the consciousness which governs each of these chakras aids a person to know what type of creative thought is being used and what type of creative thought is being misused or not used much at all.  The School of Metaphysics offers a Spiritual Focus Weekend in May which helps a person to understand and master these energies for greater wholeness and longevity.

The biggest question I have for this dreamer is, "What was occurring in your life and in your consciousness that was blocking you from tapping into the unlimited source of energy that is available to you?"  Answering this question will help you to link your mind, emotions, and physical experience and understand the connection that energy plays in all three.  As you come to know this connection you will become a creative energy master.

Dreaming of a White Bird

My grandmother used to tell me dreams when I was a little girl.  She said every time someone was going to get better she would dream of a white bird.  If they were not going to improve it would be a black bird.  I know this is possible, because she had it happen.  What do you think about this as a health indicator?

DamianN (not verified)
Birds...Premonitions of Health or Inner Mind Indicators?

This could be showing some telepathic connection your grandmother had with other people.  I would say it has more to do with the individual's state of consciousness than I would necessarily with predicting their physical condition although the two are intimately connected.  Birds represent what we call subconscious thoughts.  These are movements in the subconscious mind that could show how a thought form is moving out into physical manifestation or it could show understandings that have been built from previous lifetimes or even present thought patterns that have made themselves resonant within the inner mind.  The color white will indicate a more aggressive movement of energy and the color black will indicate a more receptive movement of consciousness.  Your grandmother's dreams may have been showing how the individual she had white bird dreams about would be aggressively using the will to regain health and healing while the people associated with the black dreams may have been receding into a more receptive state that actually led to passivity or simply moving deeper into the subconscious mind.  This could result in the individual doing what we sometimes call "withdrawing from the physical" or dying.

Am I getting sick?

I dreamed I got sick, and they took me to the hospital where my blood was drained and replaced with some kind of green liquid.  I felt better for a while then I was dead.  I remember coming out of my body, kinda like a white, ghost.  I was floating up near the ceiling in the room.  No one else could see me.

Does this relate to my health?  Should I be concerned about getting sick, or dying?

DamianN (not verified)
Freedom from Fear

I wouldn't be concerned about dying, although there are some things you can glean from this dream regarding your state of mind and state of health.  Anytime there is an illness in your dreams you can look at it for a deeper awareness of the collection of thoughts and attitudes you may be holding onto throughout your day.  Was there any indication of what kind of sickness you were experiencing in the dream?  Was it a cold or flu?  If so, you may have been experiencing prolonged indecision in your life leading up to the dream.  Was the sickness cancer of some form?  This will indicate a sustained anger or hatred that has been accruing in your daily thoughts.  If you know what the sickness was you can reference a book the School of Metaphysics publishes called Permanent Healing.  This book describes the mental causes for various physical disorders and it also gives ways to remedy these disorders that transform consciousness and give you steps to practice that are simple.

Looking at the hospital in the dream and the green liquid indicates that  you were reaching for and achieving a state of healing and greater wholeness in response to the disordered consciousness that you started with.  The death in the dream actually indicates some form of transformation that you made that day.  This dream also shows that you were beginning to identify more with the inner realm of your existence as indicated by coming out of your body and floating on the ceiling.  This connects with an explanation I was giving earlier about the nature of our existence when we go to sleep at night.  Astral travel and out of body experiences are great ways for any of us to come to know ourselves as more than physical beings.  The more conscious we become of these experiences the more familiar we become with what we call the inner levels of consciousness.  Esoteric teachers throughout history have described this as the astral or etheric planes.  Here we truly have a greater degree of freedom than we do in the physical world and most importantly we can come to know the Self as a permanent being that can grasp that physical life is simply a giant school room to assist us in this permanent growth.

So yes you are changing, and you are changing in a way that is helping you relieve any fears you have of what will happen after your physical body dies.  The more you know your Self as a soul the more free you are to learn and grow and change in this physical universe.

What's up with that?

For the past few months I have been very devoted to having a healthy body and mind.  I have been eating healthy foods, even consulting a nutritionist who includes the mind in the healthiness of eating and exercising 3 times a week.  The other morning I had a dream that I got into my new car and it did not start.  Is this dream foreshadowing a health issue?  With my new healthy life style I was shocked to have this kind of dream.  Can you help me to understand this dream message?

DamianN (not verified)
A New Car That Won't Start

This is a good question to ask since you might expect something very different with all of the effort you have been placing on your improved health.

As we have mentioned before, a car or personal vehicle represents your physical body.  You obviously are aware of this based on your dream and your question about it.

You might consider how dreams are a reflection of your thoughts and attitudes from the day before.  Keeping this in mind, you may consider less of an urgency and more of an immediacy regarding your state of health.  Look at the image that is being presented by your dream.  You have a new car in the dream so this is reflecting the new way you are perceiving and using your body.  Whether the car is new in your physical life or not isn't that important.  The car not starting most likely indicates some kind of difficulty in getting your body to move from a relaxed or sedentary condition to one that is more active and in motion.

It is important to realize the neutrality of the dream.  It is simply showing you what is happening in your waking  state.  This dream could have been showing how your thoughts and attitudes were making it hard for you to wake up one morning and that could have been a key to changes in consciousness that you needed to make that day.  If you have been exercising more than usual then this dream might be showing how you are needing more rest for your body to recover from the exertion that has been put forth.  The dream could even be showing you how you felt after sitting for a long period of time such as sitting in front of a computer at work all day.

Keep these different perspectives in mind while you review what you were thinking and doing throughout the day before you had this dream.  I suggest for you to continue to watch your dreams for more messages about your health, since you are endeavoring to improve your physical sense of wholeness.  Tracking your progressions can be illuminating and can free you into the mental and spiritual wholeness that will support your physical changes.

Starting Steps for Health Dreams

While there are a number of ways to understand your health through dreams physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually, the primary symbol to look for is that of a car or personal sized vehicle.  Cars, pick-up trucks, mini-vans, small boats, small airplanes, and any other vehicle of like kind will give you insight into the condition and well being of your physical body.

Your physical body is a type of vehicle.  When you understand your Self as a soul, and as a mental being or a spiritual being you begin to realize you are not the body.  You leave your body and the body-consciousness of the five physical senses every night when you go to sleep.  For many people this seems to be a time when we just "shut down" or in other words, go unconscious.  For some people this time of sleep can be a time of awake dreaming that allows the individual to experience a whole new realm of existence.

When you wake up you return to your physical vehicle and are hopefully recharged and refreshed, ready to gain a new set of experiences through this physical form of interaction.  In this way the body acts like our car or truck.  It provides a means for the mind and soul to move around in the physical world and to interplay with other physical beings and stimuli.

Over the years I have had the pleasure of interpreting dreams on many radio stations for morning shows, evening shows, and pre-recorded programs.  Often people who phone in are having difficulty with their car or other vehicle in their dreams.  Many time after explaining the meaning of these dreams radio station callers have admitted some challenge with their physical health ranging from chronic diseases, to terminal illnesses, to temporary injuries and conditions.

Some important keys are to look at what is actually happening to the car in the dream.  Is it running out of gas?  Perhaps you are needing to understand how energy moves in your mind and through your body.  Is the car getting a flat tire?  Many people have this dream and it usually indicates only a temporary set back  your body is experiencing rather than a major illness.  Is your car having a major mechanical failure?  This might be something more serious that you want to look at, giving your Self some time to examine and evaluate what is going to serve your overall wholeness and well being.

These are a few places to start !!

Foods & Health

This is a good question.  Food in a dream symbolizes knowledge.  The quality of the food will reflect the kind of knowledge you were exposed to or pursued the day before the dream.  For instance, what do you think the difference is between a classic novel and a trashy one?  An organically grown apple and a double chocolate mint sundae with whipped cream?  Get the picture?  The latter may satisfy your sensual cravings for now, but the long-term benefits weaken your energy field.

The forbidden food could be meat or dairy or peanuts.  All perfectly nutritious foods at the right time, in the right proportions, for the right reasons.  Yet, in today's world, people are being diagnosed with food allergies every day.  So what your dream means depends on the "forbidden" food.  What is it?

Another thought.....what we cannot do in our daytime lives often makes it into our night time dreams.  The blind can see, the deaf hear, the dead live again.  Like the movie AVATAR, the dream world is where the physical limitations do not exist and as all great masters of consciousness have realized, when understood it is closer to the True Reality.  So on that level maybe your dreams are giving you what you deny yourself when awake!

dreams as preventative health care

I agree with the statement from Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, "The (U.S.) health-care system is tilted toward a disease system rather than a wellness system."
Part of our challenge is that many health insurance policies pay for allopathic disease management or treatment, but don't pay for health enhancing vitamins or alternative care.  So... in this case, dreams are a wonderful way to get a "read" on the mental attitudes and choices that can aid us to be healthy before we get seriously ill.  It's important, once interpreting a health dream, to make decisions in waking life to change whatever attitudes and choices are interfering with our health so that we can have health and wellbeing.

I had a student at one time who had a series of dreams of driving on a highway, with cars going in all different directions.  In the final dream of the series, the car she was driving spun out of control and crashed.  Like Kerry, her dream repeated with some slight alterations.  At the time, she was aware of some significant changes occurring in her life.  She had moved to a new city, had a job with more responsibility than she had ever had (in a leadership position), and was directing a not-for-profit organization.  She kept saying she felt "overwhelmed by responsibility and too many things to do."

The dream was reflecting that attitude, going too fast, going in too many directions.  She knew she needed to slow down her mind, to concentrate, and focus on one thing at a time.  But, instead of heeding the message, she allowed herself to spin out of control with scattered and busy thinking, and worry rather than concentrated visualization.

Guess what happened?  As the dreams predicted, she "crashed."  She became exhausted, not able to get out of bed.  The doctors couldn't diagnose what was physically wrong.  It was not mononucleosis, and a diagnosis of fibromyalgia was uncertain.  What was certain is that she had to spend some time in bed, taking days off from work. She used the time to rest, to slow down, to visualize, and to plan.  After several days of rest and concentration, she improved.

Could the dream have saved her the days of being sick?  Probably so, had she heeded the warning and made the changes she needed.  Even so, it was a good reality check, showing her how powerful dreams can be.  After this episode she paid more attention to acting on the messages from her dreams.  Today she is healthy and living productively and creatively.

EMT Dream

I am leaving a place, which is known to me in the dream.

I am in my car driving down a country road, with a slight down slope following another vehicle.  The vehicle in front is being driven by someone I know leaving the same place.  The engine of my car suddenly stopped for a few seconds.

The vehicle in front continued to go and I was no longer able to see it.

My car started back up without me doing anything.

As I was considering pulling over to the side of the road, I observed a EMT vehicle turning onto the road going into the opposite direct.  Decided to turn around and follow the vehicle.

The EMT vehicle went into a small grocery store.  I went into the store; there were 2 checkers – one white, one black, both female standing without customers.  The two EMT personnel at the back of the store talking with a man that I assumed was the manager.  I decided to wait for the two EMT personnel to ask them about my car.

Cars representing the physical body of the dreamer

In the language of mind, small vehicles symbolize the dreamer's physical body.  The kind of car, its condition, its worth, and so forth afford the dreamer the knowledge s/he needs to be healthy.  The first element her is Josephine's car suddenly stopping and starting of its own accord.  Some might worry that this means health problems.  Not necessarily.

Look at it this way.  How many functions are carried out by your physical body every day without benefit of conscious choice?  How many times do you blink your eyes to clear your vision?  How many times do you breathe in and out?  Does your heart beat?  The hair on your head grow?  Your digestion function?  Most of these seem to be automatic...they just happen, right?

Well, no.  Not really.  Yogis have proven for centuries that breath can be controlled through conscious will, thus lessening wear and tear upon the body.  The heart can be slowed, and aging retarded.   Every spiritual practitioner knows the value of fasting, refraining from eating, and some of these understand we are far less dependent upon external food sources than our senses lead us to believe.   My point is, there is much to learn about human potential and a relatively short time span to learn it in.  Dreams help us accelerate that learning process.  So does understanding the mind-body connection.

One of the best cures for asthma is learning how to sing or play an instrument.  This is because breathing properly puts you in control of your own body.  Singing and playing an instrument are means to express self, an attribute needed by anyone with breathing problems.  It is empowering to have someone who knows how to work with the whole self teaching you how to use your potential (and coaching you to do so!).  We need only begin to change our expectations of what is and what can be.  Science is showing us again and again that the physical is not what it appears to be and we are capable of (and responsible for) amazing change.  Dr. Daniel Condron's Permanent Healing book is an excellent reference on how to shift from limiting and debilitating thinking and conditions to responsive, life-affirming ones.

Josephine's dream has 3 vehicles in it.  How does that happen, you wonder.  Every dream is about the dreamer, and everyone/thing in the dream symbolizes the dreamer.  The first car, she is driving.  This indicates how she is aware of directing her body.  Sometimes, it just "gives out" underneath her.  The second vehicle is driven by someone she knows.  This is another way she "drives" herself directly related to what that person symbolizes to her.  For example, maybe this is the part of self she draws on when she could just quit because she is so tired, but she perseveres.  She'll want to examine this.

Then there is the EMT vehicle which symbolizes a third way she uses her body - this one linked to her work and to healing.  Would you like to guess in what area of endeavor Josephine's career is centered?  The answer is health services!  She is trained in both allopathic and alternative medicines.  The appearance of the EMT vehicle is relative to Josephine's conscious knowledge.  If it was in my dream, the vehicle would indicate my body yet it would not convey the same message for me.  This is probably true for you also.  Can you begin to see how the kind of vehicle, its condition, worth, and so forth are communicating important info to you concerning your own body?

health dream

These are three different dreams, over three different nights, within the same week.  They look like health dreams.....are they?

I was sitting back on a bed in the opperating room of a hospital.  Two doctors were standing at the foot of the bed, one with a saw in his hands used for cutting trees.  I was pleading with the doctors to cut off my left leg below the knee.  They said there was nothing wrong with my leg and refused at first.  I kept pleading and they did indeed cut off my left leg.  Then I awoke.

Two days later I had this dream again as if it was a progression from the first.  I was in the same hospital opperating room with the same two doctors at the foot of the bed.  They were arguing with me as I was again requesting they cut off more of my leg.  They resisted but eventually did cut off my leg above the knee this time.

Then again, within the same week, I had a third dream in the same hospital and room, with the same doctors and the same argument.  This time they cut off my left leg as high as possible near my groin.  When I awoke, I immediately wondered what would happen if I had a fourth dream.  I never did.

There's more here than you might suspect...

Thanks for making time to write in today, Kerry.

Kerry is a graduate student at the College of Metaphysics and has been studying Mind and dreams with the School of Metaphysics for seven years.  What he didn't have time to share with you is this dream happened since the first of the year.

When Kerry talked about his dream this morning in Dream Linguistics class, he said he had identified the dream message as centering around the way he used imagination in the past.  His insistence in the dream of cutting off his leg symbolizes how he is altering, restraining his very expansive application of imagination which sometimes was prone to fantasizing without benefit of a reality check.  He can explain more about that later.

What I'd like to highlight here is a phenomena worth noting that can be see as a HEALTH indicator in anyone's dream.  Kerry's dreams are PROGRESSIVE DREAMS.  This means they are presented in the same location, with the same characters, and a different action that is related to an action in the previous dream.  In the case of this dream:  the location is the operating room of the hospital, the characters are the unknown doctors and Kerry himself.  The progressive action is Kerry's insistence that the doctors cut off more and more of his left leg.

In progressive dreams, there is always an element that is being altered in some way.  In this case, it is Kerry's leg.  Legs represent our means for mobility.  How Kerry has been able to move himself in the past is no longer serving him and he knows it.  It is time for him to take action.  The dreams are feedback from the way he is living during the day previous to the dream's occurrence.  A progressive dream gives unique insight into how a person is growing/changing/evolving/progressing in his AWAKE life.  When this is realized, the dreamer can track the choices and actions that brought about the change being highlighted in the dream.

For those new to our site.....

To anyone thinking dreams are literal, Kerry's could be a gruesome nightmare.  To one prone to precognitive dreams, they might think this a literal preview of future endeavors.  Although precognitive dreams are possible and one can train the Mind to produce them, they are rare at this stage of humanity's progression.  What is far more common is the communicative nature of the dreams in the language of Mind.  Scholars know this language is in pictures.  Much info is available here at dreamschool concerning this and those wanting to know more can reference what is here.

The beauty of this dream is in Kerry's resolve to continue forward in his quest.  He has determined what he is eliminating is something that has outlived its usefulness.  In this way, his progressive dream sequence is like a series of tests reporting where he is in his awareness.  Each dream denotes the progress he has made in conquering old ways of being.

What I'm wondering, Kerry, is what it will require in your waking life for you to receive a dream with a new improved left leg!  That's something worth imagining!

A 5-Step Health Care Plan

Those new to dream study may appreciate this simple checklist for gaining the most from your night time dreams.

   1. The first step is remembering dreams.
   2. The second is recording them.
   3. The third is learning to translate them.
   4. The fourth is interpreting the dream's symbolic meaning.
   5. A fifth step is responding to that message.

An example:  One female student dreamed repeatedly that her pet cat would jump in her lap, sometimes making it difficult for her to steer her car.  She knew the cat was a habit she was attached to, and looking over her daily life for habits, she landed on her penchant for lattes.  When she got into a habit of grabbing one on the way home from work almost everyday, the dreams would start up (and pounds would start showing up on the scales).  When she drove past the cafe, and drank water, tea or a fruit smoothie instead, her cat wasn't trying to drive in her dreams anymore.  (And she was shedding those extra pounds as well)

May seem like common sense to many, however, think about it.  Have you ever been in a position to see what was obvious to others and oblivious to you?  Dreams assist in Self awareness that can save big money when it comes to health - and the heartache that can come when it fails.  Once this dreamer did the science, she saw the connection in the dream's meaning to her life.  She understood the message and knew what action to take.  The dream has become an early warning detection system for her.
