TSUNAMI ALERT: JUST ANOTHER DREAM ON THE BEACH
DS2688
Dream Date: 12/20/2011
Female, 25, Virginia UNITED STATES
My recurring dream usually takes place at the beach. The people and location are rarely the same, but it starts off as a normal beach day and usually ends with huge tsunami-like waves crashing on shore. I first had the dream when I was younger, like 12-13. But I continue to randomly have the dream. When I first had the dream the wave consumed me and I woke up, but it has since progressed into my realization of what is about to happen, warning those around me and running/escaping from the wave. The most recent version of this dream seemed less chaotic as those in the past, however it is the same monstrous wave and a fleeing/desperate feeling I get to survive.

Beach: represents area of action between the conscious and subconscious parts of mind
Water: (tsunami) overwhelming conscious life experiences
When this dreamer was 12-13 years old her emotional experience of daily life (on the beach and tsunami wave) felt overwhelming and she seemingly had no recourse. The action shows that although the dreamer starts out level headed she loses her sense of Self and reacts emotionally. She may or may not remember a specific event that she can tie to the dreams, more about that below. What is important is that this pattern of thought/reaction is still surfaces as she moves through life. The dream recurs at times that resonate with experiences when she was adolescent.
A good question for this dreamer to start with is “How do I feel?” Her subconscious mind is trying to get her to wake up by sending the dream over and over so she will do something different. It will be helpful for this dreamer to look for what triggers fear and wanting to escape and then begin to have foresight. Let’s look at the entry for beach in The Dreamer’s Dictionary.
The conscious and subconscious minds are connected by a level of consciousness known as the emotional level. The emotions act in the subconscious mind and react in the conscious mind. A beach in a dream symbolizes this action within mind. A peaceful beach will indicate productive use of emotion; a hurricane reaching a beach will symbolize emotional turmoil and reaction.
How do I understand emotional energy? Are you aware of how your thoughts manifest within the subconscious and express into physical reality through the emotional level of consciousness? Becoming educated in the inner workings of mind will aid you toward greater awareness of the purpose and power of your own emotions.
Our dreamer is making progress because in the early dreams—
when I first had the dream the wave consumed me and I woke up…the more recent dreams have since progressed into my realization of what is about to happen, warning those around me and running/escaping from the wave. Read on for more about what she can do in the present time to understand this dream message.
Dreams reflect the dreamer’s thoughts, attitudes, emotions and actions from the previous day or so. As such, any dream lends insight into a dreamer’s state of conscious awareness—the benefit is that awareness empowers one to change. As changes in thought and action are made then dreams change.
Water symbolizes conscious life experience in a dream. Being overwhelmed by water indicates an experience that is beyond the individual’s ability or perhaps willingness to face. When the dreams started our dreamer was young so it is likely that things were happening that were beyond her control. A tsunami is a large, potentially destructive, ocean caused by an underwater earthquake. In a dream a tsunami is going to be linked with a big event in someone’s life—think of things like parents divorcing, moving to a new city or country, starting to run with the wrong crowd and getting caught, setting your sites on an athletic career and injuring the body. The possibilities are endless, however, we make our point. The dreamer, as always, is the one to reflect on her life experiences and seek out the memory that is linked to these dreams. Looking at the 12-year-old self through 25-year-old eyes will help our dreamer to gain a different perspective. She has more life experience now, and to the degree that she is willing to learn from these experiences she can bring a more mature viewpoint to her past. We encourage her to strive for honesty and resilience so she is willing to face anything that comes her way, without feeling threatened or wanting to run. Sending this dream-question to dreamschool.org will certainly give her new things to think about and we encourage her to use them to make changes.
We highly recommend the book Wisdom of Solomon by Dr. Barbara Condron as it chronicles her journey in understanding fear and neutralizing emotional reactions.
The experience we recommend is the Taraka Yoga on resolution at this link:
