In the present day, people are more inclined to talk about their dreams than they were fifty or even twenty years ago. The advances in the area of psychology and sleep research have affected our beliefs about what happens when we sleep.

Although some deny the meaning and even the existence of dreams, advances in scientific sleep research conducted at colleges and universities around the world have verified both. Yet, the reasons why we dream remain largely unanswered.

Pioneering research into the Universal Language of Mind being conducted at the College of Metaphysics
seeks to change this.

We are exploring the effect of the Moon on our dreams––

Participation is open until February 3rd. Register today.

During this GLOBAL LUCID DREAMING EXPERIMENT tracking the moon’s effect on dreams, we are receiving dreams from around the world.  As participants send in their dreams on the appointed days, we will endeavor to post some of them, along with interpretations in the Universal Language of Mind, so we may have glimpses into the content of our dreams.

6 Dreams from the January 22, 2008 Full Moon Experiment Data

A female from Indiana writes:

I had several fairly short dreams on Monday evening, one of which was lucid.

Dream 1:
My dream was of my being at a school...think of the school on X-Men...it was not that it was state of the art or had superheroes, but rather that the students each had a special power or ability.  I was one of the students at the school and I was practicing my abilities throughout the school along with a few other students.

I happened to have two specific abilities- flying and invisibility.  I was enjoying flying through the school just as though I would do the backstroke in the swimming pool.  I would fly high and low and hover at ease.  The lucidity comes in when I realize that I am flying and enjoying it and then, within the dream a dream voice (myself) tells me, "Heather, you can fly or be invisible at will and with concentration."  The voice did not take place in the dream, but rather narrator-like telling me that what I was seeing was not only very natural and easy to achieve, but that I know how and can do it at will.  This repeated a couple of times.

I continued practicing flying and staying invisible.  The flight was easy, but I was having some trouble staying invisible.  I would be invisible for a while and then I would be visible.  This is when the voice repeated itself to me.  So, within the dream I sought to hone my concentration and will to attain both ease of flight and invisibility.  I would know that I was visible when my fellow classmates could see me again.

The dreamer is focused on learning about the potential of self.  She is recognizing conscious and subconscious aspects of Self that are involved in this learning, and who play an important role of supporting.  These aspects are also the way the dreamer can tell whether she is manifesting her ideas or not.

Flying in a dream is an archetypal symbol for the freedom of movement available in the inner levels of consciousness.  This is known as astral projection or “out of body” experiences (OBEs) meaning that the consciousness is separate from the physical body.  This separation is natural, it occurs every time you rest and reach levels of sleep.  It can also occur in meditative states or can be drug induced.  For instance, many people report OBEs when being cared for by a dentist or doctor.

In your dream, you are actively moving into the inner levels.   This allows you access to inner powers that would otherwise go unnoticed or taken for granted.  What is most interesting is the element of invisibility.  This indicates the crux of your learning curve is determining which thoughts and ideas are manifesting this power in you.

Up until now, you have been satisfied with a certain level of inner rapport.  Now, your acumen in state of consciousness, symbolized by the swimming in air with great control, is being stretched by this new development in content of consciousness.

What will aid your learning lies with the voice of the unseen person, the unknown guide or teacher.  This vibration is as yet unseen by you – another reference to the invisibility element in this dream.  In order to identify your super-human abilities, you will want to develop a rapport with your Superconscious Mind that is in keeping with that which you have built in the outer Subconscious/Conscious Minds.

Toward this end you might want to create an affirmation that entrains head and heart.  Perhaps, “I am open and willing to accept a spiritual teacher into my life.”  There is an old saying, “When the student is ready, the teacher appears.”  Your dream indicates you may soon enter experiences of this truth.

A female, 49, from Turkey reports two dreams that run concurrently then unite into one.

I am having two dreams at the same time. In one of them; I am walking towards the Tarabya crossroad on Maslak Avenue . My sons, some of their friends etc are there too. I am not sure if everybody is walking or some are in car. In the other one; I am at a conference on language. There are some words written on boards one below another and we are discussing on "language- nation- ethnicity etc" relations.

The dual nature of this dream indicates that there are two trains of thought going on in your mind, both relevant to one another.

In the first dream suddenly a very big bomb explodes. There is fire all around me. People are either burning to death or can't breath because of the thick, dark smoke. I am catching some from hand, some from arm side over the high viaduct and drag to a side. I tell one of my sons to hurry down towards the sea if he can breath. I see a friend of them, K* can't breath very well. Remembering he has asthma in WR, I am putting him in a car to hospital. There is a big chaos, everybody is running every where. I stop and watch them, they seem they don't know what to do, can't see as much as I can and can't even think. The explosion is going on as there are bombs in bombs.

The first dream addresses the dreamer’s reaction to an unexpected and unwanted change in her life.  This change is affecting how she normally thinks and expresses herself, threatening what is familiar to her.  It has caused the dreamer to examine her motives in how she gives and receives.  She is becoming aware of aspects of self that need healing and deliverance.

In the other dream we are discussing a lot. I am agreeing that the people better know their roots because of many reasons but learning the roots of language, nationality shouldn't reach the point of "nationalism". While I am trying to explain my point of view to them, and have the explosion dream at the same time, I am also trying to secretly observe the responsible terrorists wherever they are.

At the same time aspects of self are dispersing and changing – symbolized by the chaos in the streets – other aspects are uniting for a common goal – symbolized by the conference.  This goal is to identify cause, most probably the causal factor for the unwanted change.

Few are around watching what they did and communicating with others by a cell phone. I follow the phone waves and reach the others at a mountainside. Many of them dressed in local peasants clothes are carrying parcels of narcotics. I follow back the phone waves and there they are in a shopping center to my left at the explosion area. They have a car gallery there to hide their drug traffic. There are 2-3 young women asking for drugs and the black moustached man is trying to sell them something crystalled/crystallized?

I am asking his mind, why they are doing these? His mind answers this is the way of international politics, economics, all kind of benefits work. I am asking his mind, what about the noble causes they put forward as "freedom" etc. He answers, I should ask them to their leaders. People are still burning outside.

The theme of communication is clear in this dream.  The emphasis on language and the cell phone indicate the dreamer is focused on understanding communication as a tool for unifying the Self rather than disrupting inner harmony and cooperation.  Through communicating, the dreamer is seeing the impact of other people’s thoughts on the health of the body.  At first, this is on the level of  society’s thinking about health, then it becomes admitting her own inner thoughts.  The message here is personal responsibility requires will power, and gives the individual the strength to lead.

At the other side in the dream we are discussing in a conference, I stop and look at the words on the boards again. There are words like "ka", "kar", "era", "eka", "katu", "karg" etc..etc.. They should be the roots of our language (and many others) but they don't tell anything to me. Suddenly I remember my National Geographic "Genealogy Project" results. The map is in front of my eyes, my lineage beginning from Africa, passing to Central Asia and following the road to Americas . It never step to these lands I call motherland.
I am getting confused.

Now the dream focuses on how the dreamer can understand universal symbols as causal agents.  She holds a world view yet the origin and connecting link eludes her.  Her answer comes in the form of uniting the dreams…..

I decide I may not follow all at the same time and make the dreams one. When I make the dreams one, the moustached man begins to comment on the words at the boards. Many from other dream and even from the mountain I peeked unite the discussion. Wow, it seems like everybody knows more than me about the words. I prefer to stay silent and listen their absurd ideas turning my back. I feel they are all, at least most are dirty.

There is a furnace in front of me, as it is a kitchen. I begin to cook bread and cheese to my son.  I feel there is no roof over our heads and no walls around us. It is as everything is happening at the same place, altogether. Fire, explosions, discussion, drug traffic, cooking all goes together.

(Tarabya means healing, therapy)

Uniting the two dreams enables the dreamer to regain her power in the changes that are going on in her life.  Whatever has occurred in her waking life, it has stimulated her to identify the parts of self that desire clearer and deeper understanding and to release others.  She knows she has met a challenge, yet she is rejecting what it might say about her.  Nonetheless, what she has experienced the day before the dream has caused widespread and unbridled expansion in her thinking. She seeks to take the information at hand and make it workable knowledge.  Although she may feel overwhelmed and inadequate to the task, she is actually adjusting to the new thinking and situations the changes have brought.  This is reaffirmed when the dreamer lets us know the name of the street in the very beginning – Tarabya – means healing.  This then sets the tone of the entire message.

There are two books I would recommend.  The first is valuable in understanding thinking as it relates to health:  Permanent Healing by Dr. Daniel Condon.  The second is one I wrote which is helpful in tracing archetypal thinking in times of change, loss, and reconciliation:  The Wisdom of Solomon.

A female deejay from the Midwest…..

dream #1:  11:00pm

At my house, there was a small party.  2 old men who seemed familiar to me showed up.  They spoke to me without speaking, but through thoughts.  One led me to the backyard to show me a pickup truck with about 500 fishing poles in the back.  He said, "This is the truck you will use." He also commented on some crazy kids who put a bunch of condoms in the truck along with the fishing poles as a joke.

I went back in the house, and a second old man sat by a flimsy fold out couch that was unfamiliar to me.  I laid down on my pathetic mattress. He just smiled at me. I thought...ok, you can go away now.  He let me know (through his thoughts) that he was going to stay there all night and watch over me.  He was wearing blue jeans and a blue shirt, and had a long ZZ Top type beard.  I told myself to smile back, and told myself to reach over and touch his knee to thank him.  I woke up.

The dreamer is becoming aware of older patterns of thinking concerning the link between spirit and body.  A need take care in how she initiates creating, is highlighted.  This might show itself as a need to take greater responsibility for her desires when awake, particularly in light of the dream setting being a “party” and the second “old man” who watches over the dreamer.

The element of telepathy the dreamer could be linked to her profession.  As a radio personality, many people know her without benefit of she knowing them.  This opens an entire area of study in consciousness that few have written about that probably resonates clearest with pre-history, Atlantean-Lemurian time.  The reason is man’s creations with technology.

Let’s briefly explore this for a moment.  The ability to project your personality and voice around the world is a new invention.  We use telephones, radios, and televisions – external devices – for this purpose.  This has been used for many productive purposes by public servants, and mostly for entertainment by the masses.  Radio is predominantly a form of entertainment, allowing for some educational purposes as well.

When an individual makes themselves known through these technological mediums, they establish connections with hundreds, thousands, even millions of people (think the Pope, a network newscaster, Oprah Winfrey or Bono) who they will never know.  We know them; they don’t know us.  I have heard more than one celebrity comment on the familiarities people take with their lives, from over-zealous interrupting a private dinner to ask for an autograph to greed-driven car chases by paparazzi.  This is clearly an imbalance that the celebrity invites.

This dream of old men, somewhat familiar, who “speak” only in thought is stimulating this dreamer to think about the more far-reaching effects of her life and work.  Choosing to be out in the public in this way is an amazing pulpit of influence that can be used for real good in the world.  Perhaps that realization is what the old man who is staying is waiting for.

A male lucid dreamer writes….

It is dark and I am walking along a street at the edge of a town. This place seems like a town I visited before in my dreams. There are a few people on the street but they are motionless, dead, like statues. One of them is laying on the ground, like he fell or is sleeping.

I am lucid - I know that I am dreaming and I am rather surprised to see motionless statues of people.

I'm taking a right on a street leading towards the center of the town and I see a few more people, this time all of them are alive and well. My first questions are - can they see me? Can they hear me? I'm walking to one of them and greeting him - "Hello!", but my voice sounds very official and nervous. "Hi!" responds the person, a man in his 30th, clearly amused by the tone of my voice. I know that others can see and hear me, now it's time to ask some questions about the moon. I can clearly see that it's late at night and the lights are turned on only in a few of the houses.

I'm drifting out of lucidity for a few seconds -  I don't remember walking somewhere or opening a door, but by the time I'm in control again I'm in an Asian restaurant or hotel. A woman in Asian (probably Japanese) clothing is bowing politely and inviting me to walk along a corridor. I'm in a large hall talking to 3 people - a friend of mine B., some other guy I can't quite see and a young Asian female. I want to ask B. about the dreams and the moon, that's why I'm here, but formulating the question isn't easy and what I manage to ask sounds like: "Is this the moon?". B. responds with clear amusement - "No!". His friends are laughing at my question too but they don't tell me where we are. They think I know what is this place.  B. wants me to go with them and see something important.

We are on the street again but the young woman is starting to take more and more of my attention. B. is asking me to concentrate but the smooth skin of the young woman (we are hugging) seems more important than what he wants to show me.  I'm telling him something like "I know this is just a dream. You shouldn't mind we are hugging, that's what people do in their dreams, don't they?". The lucidity is all but gone by now and the moon doesn't bother me any more. I'm hugging a sexy woman and I can't stop wondering how smooth her skin is.

Time - I'm guessing I had this dream sometime between 2 and 3 AM.

Lucidity in dreams comes in stages.  This is part of what we are studying in these experiments.  Here, the dreamer is noting when he is awake and aware in the dream and when he is not.  This exercises his will in the inner levels enabling him to track when he is aware and when conscious awareness escapes him.

The dream message comes in two parts.  The first relays the dreamer’s desire to focus upon Subconscious awareness.  He is not secure in his identity in the inner levels of mind often feeling stymied or stumped.  When he is disciplined he has powers of observation and listening that he is learning he can rely upon.

The second part of the dream elaborates on the first, giving the dreamer an indication of how he is using his thinking.  B is a conscious aspect who the dreamer believes has answers.  finding answers is the purpose of the dream, which is never fulfilled because the dreamer retreats into subconscious mind.  Whether this is productive or not depends upon how the dreamer identifies B.  The questions the dreamer needs to ask now are:  What do I see in B that I also see in myself?  Is this an aspect of that I can use more wisely?  How might this aspect bring greater Self knowledge?

A female dreamer from Mexico reports:

I am in a flea market, waiting for some executives from AVON Company to arrive because I need to talk to them about my products and the Indian products I would like them to consider introducing in Avon´s catalogue.  When they finally arrive, I tell them that to introduce them, would be the same process than that of the handmade carpets where Indians lay down to sleep ("tepetates"). The conversation shifts to talk about an exhibit made out of different types, shapes and styles of stones, and they ask for my opinion.  I say "I would take this one out"  I grab one and get it out of the table and get the rest rearranged.  When I try to redirect the conversation to my own interest, I notice that A* (one of the executive from Avon I need to convince)  is wearing the same piyama I am wearing (with a big teddy bear on the chest),  I tell her so and show her mine, but that shifts the conversation again to another thing. It seems that now we are in a type of piyama party, all chatting on a bed.  We keep talking, but never get deep into the business topic.  When I turn around, the flea market is being already dismanteled and A* and her coworker are gone and I don´t get an answer about the business.  I feel quite frustrated.  EOD

This dream concerns the dreamer’s sense of accomplishment in life.  The day before this dream, something was left unresolved to the dreamer’s dissatisfaction.  This dream message attempts to shed light on that.

The setting is the market symbolizing a place in mind where the dreamer exchanges value.  The dreamer wants to give what she sees valuable and compares this to other ideas that are less certain in  her mind.  She is weighing her ideas, getting distracted by how valuable she thinks other ideas may be.  The aspect that allows the distraction is symbolized by A*.

A* is a supervisor in the dreamer’s waking life so the dreamer can consider whether the distraction is taking her where she wants to go or is leading her astray.  Either way, the dreamer becomes involved in how she is expressing herself thus losing her opportunity to give what she desires.  The dream seems to be indicating that the dreamer’s dissatisfaction was linked to getting caught up in what other’s might think rather than rooted in the value she wanted to give.

One more dream from an African American Male

Lucid Lunar Dreaming Experiment Jan 22 5AM, Central Standard Time:

I’m in a furniture store/my bedroom-- it wasn’t my actual bedroom, in my mind it was. A blond-haired man is walking around the store a few feet behind me, and he has a couch and/or a maple finished bookcase in his mouth, vertically. It morphed between a couch and bookcase in his mouth, but I saw them both clearly (understand that I work in a furniture store and I build furniture for display, and I watched ‘Scott Baio is 46 & Pregnant’ that day, and he was buying & furnishing a new house, so whatever).

Neither one of us was shopping or looking for anything in particular. The store looked like a vintage store that I poked my head in once and never returned to. Real cheesy stuff that I’m too old to be into.

At this point I thought that this vision was SO ludicrous that I figured that I was dreaming, and then my alarm started beeping, and I woke up. For the sake of the experiment (and more sleep) I hit the SNOOZE button.

I went back into the dream immediately, like I was back from a commercial break. I found that odd, because that NEVER happens… Suddenly the “furniture” popped out of the guy’s mouth and he walked away. A voice said, “Go on, you’re free.” And my reaction was, “Say what? I’m free? That’s crazy!”

Then I woke up.

I’m surprised the dream stayed with me all day.

There is a connection between your waking job and experiences (ie. The show) and your dreams.  This is common.  The subconscious mind draws upon the information stored in the brain for its “words” in the message it sends.  Therefore, the furniture store setting and activity worked well in conveying this message to you.  It’s like the person who eats pizza before going to sleep and pizza shows up in his dream.  If the event was literal-organic-biological then everyone who eats pizza at night would dream of pizza later.  They don’t anymore than you dream of work every night.  Only the images that convey the inner self’s message will appear in the dream.

You have a good deal of fun with this dream and apparently see it as outrageous.  Dreams seem this way to us sometimes because we think how strange it would be if they occurred in our waking lives.  Symbolically, the dream takes on a whole new meaning.  Since we’ve been studying dreams for over 40 years, we can bring that research to bear for your benefit.

This dream addresses a need for you to understand how your mind works.  The blond-guy is an unconscious aspect of self that has more information than he knows what to do with and the dream message is akin to “don’t bite off more than you can chew”.  A good rule of thumb might be to become more selective with the stimuli you are choosing to expose yourself to.  Become more centered.  Practice using your mind – memory, concentration, visualization.  Begin getting the most from your capabilities rather than cruising on automatic.

Continuing the dream after the snooze alarm is a skill the School of Metaphysics course teaches.  It is invaluable for Self awareness and greater Enlightenment.

The Global Lucid Dreaming Experiment is a series of experiments designed to explore the reality of our dreams.

To begin analyzing the effect of the moon on dreaming, we are assembling a global group of dreamers who will report dream activity over the next 2 months. Four specific days are pinpointed (see above), each determined by the phase of the moon. Dreamers will answer three questions:

1. Did you remember a dream?

2. If yes, what occurred in the dream?

3. Was this a lucid dream*?

Those who register before FEBRUARY 3rd can still participate.
