new reports will be posted regularly in the coming weeks

DREAMER:  female, 24, choreographer

LUCIDITY FACTOR:

            Level 3

DREAM REPORT

I dreamed that I was seeing the psychologist I used to see when I was younger.  I went to the bathroom that was actually in my parent's house and all over the floor and the bathmat, essentially everywhere, were dead cockroaches.  I freaked out about them and told P*(male) the psychologist.  He did not seem upset by them and we began talking about issues.  We went outside and at the end of the conversation he said “actually what will really help you is if you eat more food.”  He promised the next time we met he would take me to a restaurant called 821 in Richmond.

Then we walked to a building that was a military school and my old boss K*(female) was there.  She told me they got a new piano and I should try to play it.  We went up the stairs, but a large African-American man stopped us and said the piano was only for upper classmen.  I tried to tell him I was almost 25 and played the violin so it was ridiculous that I couldn't play, but he wouldn't budge.  I was then transported to a scene that was kind of gladiatorial where everyone had to fight matches.  At the end I was at a big wooden table in this kind of stable eating a lot of food with many people I did not know.

DREAM STATE

2.  Was this a dream? Y N

Yes

3. If yes, was this a lucid dream? (Meaning, a conscious perception of

your state while dreaming.) Y N

Yes I was aware that this was a dream, especially during the part with the bugs.  Actually for all of it.  Like the section with  the piano I remember trying to give myself advice, like  “tell him you are older than upper classmen.”  I also was aware of listening closely to everything that was said.

DREAM CONTENT

The dreamer is reviewing a previous way of thinking about the Self and life.  She is letting go of dependencies, updating how she thinks.  Admitting how much she has changed at first strikes her emotionally and she seeks inner counsel from Superconscious mind.  This connection aids her to realize she has let go of thoughts, attitudes, and emotions which are no longer needed.  What is needed is knowledge.

The dreamer postpones acquiring the knowledge needed and this is revealed in her dream as an old pattern.  The old way of harmonizing to experience superconscious awareness no longer works.  At one time it was associated with learning discipline.  In the present it is not.  The old way is now producing doubt in the dreamer's mind which lays the groundwork for inner conflict and turmoil.  This in turn is what leads to settling for what is easy or comfortable.  As the turmoil begins the dreamer seeks solace in old thoughts, old ways of being.

This dream is significant to the dreamer as it carries a train of thought that has been with her for many years.  The presence of the former psychologist and former boss date the thinking to a past time no longer relevant to the dreamer now.  Their presence in the dream however marks the need to update the thoughts/actions associated with that time in the dreamer's life.  It is time for her to "move on" in a big way.

The dream illustrates a function of dreams in revealing the continuity of consciousness over time and space.  What was needed and acceptable at the age of 7 is no longer needed and acceptable at 27.  Thinking becomes more sophisticated, physical mastery more developed, so different choices for learning can be made.  Even in this context, archetypal themes exist as the soul makes itself pronounced.  And so a young boy of 7 trades in his toy cars for big cars when he is 27.   What the child pretends foretells the areas s/he will find the greatest fulfillment through later in life.  The young girl who pretends to nurture a babydoll will find fulfillment through her own children while the young girl who takes the initiative to rally friends into common activities will find fulfillment through positions of leadership.

Dreams such as this one can accelerate the expansion and progress of our consciousness because it gives us valuable feedback connecting the present mental, emotional and physical condition with its point of origin or cause.  To let go of the old requires this depth of thinking precipitated by both reasoning and intuition.  The dream provides the intuition that is missing from typical everyday thinking
