A worldwide study in Consciousness

The Global Lucid Dreaming Experiment seeks to gather and report findings concerning the state and content of dreaming.

Participation in the Global Lucid Dreaming Experiments is open to anyone. Registration begins by communicating through email with researchers at the College of Metaphysics in the USA.

Upon receipt of the dreamer’s intention to participate, demographic information is requested in eight areas including:  sex, age, occupation, country, race, religious faith, marital status, and number of children.

In addition, dreamers are asked several questions pertaining directly to dreaming.  Each dreamer evaluates themselves on a four point scale to determine his or her beginning level of dream lucidity.  How many dreams are remembered per week and method of recording dreams is also included.  Three questions focusing on lucid dreams are also asked.

This information is catalogued by researchers and serves as the foundation for statistical analysis. Initially it identifies the dream state of the dreamer and the dream content of the dreamer's experience.   In the years to come, it will track the development and change in individual and global consciousness over time and space.

Future experiments will be announced through www.dreamschool.org on the net and through publications and media as attention is drawn to it.  We expect word of mouth to be the most far reaching notification as the interest in dreaming has increased over the past 20 years evidenced by SOM research conducted through the National Dream Hotline®.

The second experiment will occur in February 2008.  Specific time and date will be announced this summer.  For this experiment we are seeking participants from every continent.  Those desiring to participate can register any time by emailing us here.

We encourage those participating in the first Global Lucid Dreaming Experiment to continue their participation as this will provide a unique study group over the coming years.

The Global Lucid Dreaming Experiment is conducted by School of Metaphysics researchers at the College of Metaphysics.  It was originated by Dr. Barbara Condron, a lifelong student and teacher of metaphysics and a pioneer in the exploration, understanding and development of Mind.  She currently serves as Governor of International Education for the School of Metaphysics.

Dreamers catalogue their experiences during the experiment in four key areas:

1 LUCIDITY FACTOR

Self assessment:  level one, two, three, or four.

Lucidity Factor describes the consiousness of an individual, awake or asleep.  Participants are asked to evaluate themselves on a four point scale ranging from rarely, if ever, remember dreams to frequently experience lucid dreams.  This establishes an alpha point for the study and for growth over time.

2  DREAM REPORT

Firsthand account of dream experience during appointed time/date of experiment.

Dream Report describes the inner and outer experience.

3 DREAM STATE

            Indications of state of consciousness

Dream State describes the form the experience assumed.  This will manifest in one of two ways:  conscious or unconscious.  Unconscious means there is no recall of what occurred from the time of losing physical consciousness to the time of regaining it.  The conscious state implies a sentient experience, an experience of being self-aware,  This will take one of two forms:  conscious in the conscious mind which means a dream will be remembered, or conscious in the subconscious mind which means you have consciously awakened in the dream.

Remembered dreams are examined out of real time for the meaning and application of their content.  For example, the dream is recorded and interpreted minutes or more after its occurrence.

Consciously awakening in a dream (lucid dreaming) allows for examination of content and response in real time.   For example, a husband and wife, known to the dreamer, are marrying.  Their 12-year-old son is present which sparks conscious recognition drawing the dreamer’s attention into the dream.  At this moment, the dreamer can claim lucidity by expanding the attention beyond the dream action to include recognition of the physical “facts” of the couple.  When both the dream (subconsciously-induced thought) and the physical memory (consciously-induced thought) coexist, a state of reverie is achieved and the dreamer is lucid.

4 DREAM CONTENT

            Assessment of dream content

Dream Content describes the function the experience provided.  This will manifest in one of two ways:  subconsciously produced or consciously generated.  Subconsciously produced means the images appearing in the dream are real in the inner levels of the mind of the dreamer.  These are symbolic, making it possible for a 50-year-old dreamer to be back in his high school having a conversation with Pope John Paul II.  Subconsciously produced dream content can be recalled by the waking conscious mind for interpretation.

Consciously generated refers to the capacity to enter into the dreamstate by conscious will.  This will be in one of two ways:  as an observer or as a participant.  Choosing to observe holds the conscious attention steady allowing the dream-action to unfold uninterruptedly in real time.  Participating engages the will to think and act influencing the direction of the dream-action.  Both are classifications of lucid dreaming as lucid dreaming is the aware, awake state of consciousness not the dictating or controlling of the dream action.  When dream-action is consciously altered the inner level experience is changed thereby affecting the consciousness of the dreamer according to the functions produced.  (See Changing Dream Content)

Outstanding data from April 29, 2007 experiment is being analyzed and will be reported in two forms:

1) The individual dream reports and interpretation of the meaning of dreams/inner level experiences will be discussed here.

One dream from each level is now available: Level One, Level Two, Level Three, Level Four

2) The overall implications of the data collected will be reported as the whole picture becomes clear.
